A theme talk as well as cap conferment and pinning ceremony took place at the auditorium on the 3rd floor of Kiang Wu Hospital Radiation Building in the morning of 5 May to celebrate the International Nurses Day.
Vice President of the Women's General Association of Macau and member of the Legislative Assesmbly of the Macao Special Administrative Region Wong Kit Cheng and Vice Chairman of Macau Economic Association and Honorary Advisor of Global Tourism Economy Research Centre Ieong Tou Hong were invited as the keynote speakers of the theme talk, who covered topics on "The Road to Success – With the Initial Passion of Being a Nurse" and "An Analysis of the Prospects of the Tourism Industry of Macao and the West Coast of the Pearl River Estuary". As an alumna, Wong Kit Cheng recalled her memories of growing up in the College and encouraged her successors not to give up, be confident, attentive and sympathetic at all times so as to be prepared for the challenges and opportunities ahead. Dr. Ieong Tou Hong expressed his gratitude to all nursing personnel through this event. He then shared information on the development plan and prospects of China and Macao to the audience. Dr. Ieong expressed that the Bay Area is the key area of the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao cooperation, and Macao can continue to play the former role as the connecting point for Maritime Silk Road through the development of its marine tourism, which can therefore align with the development of Macao as a world tourism and leisure centre.
The cap conferment ceremony commenced after the theme talk, where Alumna Wong Kit Cheng, Nurse Supervisor of Conde de São Januário Hospital Chu Hang Ieng, Chief of Nursing Department of Kiang Wu Hospital Wong Cheng Wa and Head Nurse of the Home Care Service Team of the Worker's Medical Clinic of Macao Federation of Trade Unions Mok Sut Ieng were invited to confer the caps on nursing students. Other guests including Advanced Specialist Nurse of Kiang Wu Hospital Ng In I, Head Nurse of Kiang Wu Hospital Leong Weng Si, and KWNC Assistant Professor Chung Siu Fung were invited to confer cap and present pin to Year 3 and 4 students. The cap conferment and pinning presentation serve as the passing on of tradition of the selfless devotion and dedicated spirit of Florence Nightingale.
The cap conferment and pinning ceremony is an annual event organized in celebration of the International Nurses Day, and President Van wishes that this event can serve to commemorate Florence Nightingale, to bring forth the meaning of passing on the ever-lasting spirit of nursing and to intensity the recognition, sense of mission and responsibility of the nursing profession and amongst the college students. Year 3 and Year 4 student representatives also expressed their gratitude to all teachers and clinical placement institutions for providing them with practice venues and learning opportunities. They hoped that throughout the 4-year learning period, they are equipped and ready to be an outstanding nurse, who strive to serve the people and community.
