Entering the College 95th Anniversary — KWNC Welcomes Over 100 Freshmen in the New Academic Year

Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) held the Opening Ceremony of Academic Year 2018/2019 to welcome over 130 freshmen of "Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Programme", "Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Supplementary) (BSNS) Programme" and "Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Nursing (PDAN) Programme" at 9:30 a.m. on 24 August 2018, among which 102 are from BSN Programme. With the launching of a series of Freshers' Orientation activities, the new semester will begin next Monday.

The College Opening Ceremony was held at the Auditorium of Kiang Wu Hospital where Member of the Legislative Assembly of the Macao Special Administrative Region Wong Kit Cheng, Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the College Ung Pui Kun, Nursing Director of Kiang Wu Hospital Wong Cheng Wa, Deputy Nursing Director Ng Ngai, Deputy Nursing Director Mou Sio Nei, President of Alumni Association of KWNC & KWNMS Leong Pou Heng, KWNC President Van Iat Kio, Vice-President Xing Zhihong were present to welcome everyone in the new academic year. In addition to scholarships, Best Nursing Preceptor Award and Best Clinical Instruction Department Award for Nursing granted during the event, Certificates of Appointment were also presented to Nursing Department of Kiang Wu Hospital, Consultant of Students' Union, Counsellor as well as Mentors of Sub-club of Students' Union.

Nurse Chio Hao I, Nurse Tang Hoi Wa and Nurse Lam Ngai Leng of Kiang Wu Hospital received the Best Nursing Preceptor Awards. The Best Clinical Instruction Department Award for Nursing went to the General Ward on the 8th floor of south wing of Kiang Wu Hospital and the General Ward on the 11th floor of north wing of the Hospital. Students voting the awards among themselves all agreed that preceptors and departments receiving the awards had conducted high-calibre clinical teaching, provided students with more opportunities for practice through good time management, and cultivated students' critical thinking by encouraging them to think independently and realize shortcomings for students' advancement in nursing studies.

In order to help freshmen immerse into the new campus life, KWNC Benevolence Centre will carry out a series of Freshers' Orientation activities in the coming seven days, including the Freshers' Orientation Day, campus tour, introduction to curriculum design, student support system, Students' Union and Sub-club of Students' Union, biliteracy and trilingualism support services. Furthermore, the College has organized a 2-day Freshers' Orientation Camp to inspire students' creative thinking and expand their personal potential.

With the College 95th Anniversary, KWNC President Van Iat Kio was pleased to see that young people were willing to devote in the nursing industry, hoping that they could persist in their goals towards an ideal career path. She also mentioned that an online self-study course on academic honesty would be launched in the new academic year, and a 20-hour course on country's Constitution, Macao's Basic Law as well as other related laws will be established in collaboration with University of Macau for "BSN Programme". In light of the discussion and legislation of various laws, the College will be more stringent to ensure the professional standards of graduates. President Van hoped to witness the opening of the first independent "Master of Nursing (MNP) Programme" of KWNC at the end of this year with the public and teachers and students of the College in order to cultivate higher level of professional nursing talents. In addition, alumni are warmly invited to join activities in celebration of the College 95th anniversary on 16 November 2018.
