The gala dinner in celebration of the 95th anniversary of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) with 63 banquet tables, held at the Plaza Restaurant on 16th November 2018, was well attended by over 700 participants, consisting of government officials, representatives of higher education institutions and nursing industry at home and abroad, as well as alumni, teachers and students of the College to extend heartiest congratulations to the College on the occasion of its 95th anniversary.

The officiating guests, including Dr. Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), Lady Fok Wai Fun, wife of Chief Executive Chui Sai On, Mr. Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of CPPCC National Committee and Permanent President of Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association, Ms. Shen Beili, Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Macao SAR, Mr. Leong Vai Tac, Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, Mr. Liu Chak Wan, President of Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association and Honorary Chair of Board of Directors of the College, Mr. Ma Iao Lai, Permanent President of Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association and Former Chair of Board of Directors of the College, Mr. Ip Peng Kin, Chief of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Mr. Xu Ting, Director of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Mr. Lau Veng Seng, Chair of Board of Directors of the College, Ms. Ung Pui Kun, Vice-Chair of Board of Directors of the College, Ms. Wu Xinjuan, President of the Chinese Nursing Association, KWNC President Van Iat Kio, President of Alumni Association of KWNC & KWNMS Leong Pou Heng, as well as Chair of Students' Union of the College Leong Wai I kicked off the KWNC's 95th anniversary celebration gala dinner with a champagne toast.

Chair of Board of Directors of the College Lau Veng Seng indicated that the College has been keeping up Dr. Sun Yat-sen's philanthropic and beneficent spirit and Kiang Wu's tradition of caring and devotion, and upholding the educational philosophy of "From Personhood to Benevolence" to cultivate a large number of talented and virtuous graduates for nearly a century since its founding in 1923. Most of the 2,300 practicing nurses currently serving in Macao graduated from the College. Various courses and schooling levels for further development have been launched in order to upgrade the College to a higher education institution in the recent twenty years. In addition to the four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programme and higher caliber courses, the College has also promoted nursing education to the community by launching a wide variety of research projects related to the neighborhood, health promotion plans, as well as health care and first aid training courses.

The nursing education has received strong support from the Macao SAR Government. The new teaching building of the College to be completed and launched in 2020 will provide a wide range of teaching and training facility for the College and mark a significant milestone of nursing education in Macao. Chair Lau Veng Seng also expressed that the College would continue to intensify regional and international exchanges and cooperation between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, "Belt and Road" and Portuguese speaking countries in line with the development strategy of the country and Macao SAR government.

Mr. Ip Peng Kin, Chief of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government extended congratulations to the College on its 95th anniversary on behalf of Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government. The SAR Government will continue to strongly support to the diversified and professional advancement of the College and nursing education, promote the professional status of nursing personnel, strengthen the cultivation of local nursing talents, as well as create favorable conditions for nursing education to align with the international standards in face of the development opportunities brought by the "Belt and Road Initiative" and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The celebration of the KWNC's 95th anniversary has been being prepared over the past year. Alumni were invited to participate in the "Revisit of Alma Mater" activity where docent services were provided by nursing students who introduced the historical changes of the College to the participants. On the other hand, the "Seminar on Family Life Culture" was held to discuss the new ideas for the development of family life culture with experts and scholars from the Peking Union Medical College on the same day morning, thanks to the sponsorship of the Tertiary Education Services Office of the Macao SAR Government, as well as Acting Deputy Director of Tertiary Education Services Office Teng Sio Hong who presented souvenirs to the speakers during the event.
