The 2019/2020 opening ceremony was held in the Auditorium of Kiang Wu Hospital on the 16th August 2019. Nearly 500 people attended the ceremony, and more than 100 of them were freshers. Eight scholarships, the Best Nursing Preceptor Awards and Best Clinical Instruction Department Awards for Nursing were presented. In addition certificates of appointment were awarded to internship venues, mentors of sub-club and counsellors as an inspiration for teachers and students to pursue their personal goals.

The winners of the Best Nursing Preceptor Awards and Best Clinical Instruction Department Awards for Nursing were elected by students, and this year’s winners of the Best Nursing Preceptor Awards were Pun Kit I, Chao Man Wa, Leong Ieng Chio. The Best Clinical Instruction Department Awards for Nursing went to 8th floor of south wing and 12th floor of north wing of Kiang Wu Hospital. Students believe that the award-winning department team is harmonious and willing to give nursing students invaluable learning opportunities. It is a highly recommended team. The award-winning clinical teachers provide systematic and high-quality training, teach students with mixed abilities accordingly and are glad to share their real life experiences. Cultivating students’ critical thinking, these teachers are not only excellent teachers and great friends but also role models for nursing trainees.

KWNC President Van Iat Kio said that there are six higher education and certificate programmes in this academic year, namely Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programme (BSN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Supplementary) Programme (BSNS), Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Nursing Programme (PDAN), Master of Nursing Programme (MN), Certificate Programme in Applied Gerontology (CAG), Nursing Professional Master Degree Graduate Student Programme (NPM), which is co-organised with the Sun Yat-Sen University. There are over 430 students, in which more than 100 of them are freshers. To reinforce support and counselling for students, a college counsellor was added to KWNC team. With a series of complementary measures, the College’s president wishes to go through every learning phases with students together. She also encouraged students to pay close attention to the seven positive psychology “secret weapons”, including perseverance, passion, self-control, optimism, gratitude, interpersonal intelligence and curiosity, in order to demonstrate endurance, patience, personality traits and abilities of relentless devotion and remain true to our original aspiration.

Furthermore, KWNC president expressed that this year’s double celebration (The 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region) has significant meaning for our motherland and Macau. In response to the implementation of the new “Higher Education Regime” there is development with the college’s curriculum level, cooperative education, elective courses and programme credits etc. The implementation of the new “KWNC Statutes” and the College moving to a new campus are the core focuses of next year’s work. The college will continue to disseminate relevant information to teachers and students, and jointly erect a new college building that belongs to all of us.

The orientation activities for freshers will be held after the opening ceremony for one and a half days at Juventude Lar Salesiano Dom Bosco.
