Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) hosted ‘Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau Islands District Medical Complex Campus Launching and Ho Cheng-Kai Memorial Library Opening Ceremony’ on 25th March.

The ceremonies were to honour Mr Ho Yin and his family for their contribution to KWNC nursing education, while providing education in the new campus is the fresh starting point for the second century of the College.

KWNC Open Day is also held on the same day. The general public and secondary school students visited the new campus and learnt about KWNC study environment, numerous nursing and teaching facilities.

The College received generous support from Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government, Liaison Office of the Central People\'s Government in the Macao S.A.R., and various associations from the society. The guests who officiated the ceremonies include Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People\'s Political Consultative Conference Mr Ho Hau Wah, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ms Ao Ieong U, Liaison Office Deputy Director Ms Yan Zhichan, President of Board of Directors of Kiang Wu Charitable Association, Chair of KWNC College Council Mr Lau Veng Seng, Kiang Wu Hospital Director Ms Ung Pui Kun, KWNC President Ms Van Iat Kio, etc.

The Macao SAR Government has strongly supported Kiang Wu Charitable Association and KWNC for training nursing talents. The College has relocated smoothly to the Islands District Medical Complex Campus and it is in full operation. Its usable area is 2.3 times larger than the original College Campuses. Therefore, the quality and quantity of teaching and learning facilities have been significantly enhanced. Moreover, a modern nursing teaching environment has been created, with various resources optimised in the nursing laboratories, and a standardised Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Centre has been built.

With the Wynn Care Foundation sponsorship, the first ‘Life Journey Experience Pavilion’ is created in Macao for professional demonstration of nursing and Comprehensive Health.

Mr Lau Veng Seng mentioned that in the 100 years since the establishment of the College, graduates have served Macao and the world with the spirit of fraternity and professional skills, and they have gained wide recognition and appreciation.

To honour Mr Ho Yin who donated to build the original campus building ‘Cheng-Kai Memorial Hall’ which enabled the cultivation of numerous nursing professionals, with the approval of Mr Ho Hau Wah, Kiang Wu Charitable Association named the new campus library as ‘Ho Cheng-Kai Memorial Library’, in order to carry forward the spirit of Ho’s family regarding charity and support for nursing education.

Mr Lau Veng Seng also said that last month, KWNC completed a series of accreditations and reviews. The results of the evaluations have provided essential support for the College to continuously improve the level and quality of its courses.

KWNC will always accomplish the mission of educating students, continue to reform and innovate in the fields of nursing, gerontology and health, in order to nurture more high-quality professionals that satisfy the needs of Macao and the nation.

Ms Ao Ieong U praised that for the past century, KWNC has been cultivating numerous nursing professionals who strive for competence and integrity and they are determined to be nursing professionals. In recent years, the College has developed actively, at the same time KWNC operational standard and teaching quality continued to raise.

She expressed gratitude to KWNC teachers and students especially for their contribution during the epidemic. Whether it was the Macao universal nucleic acid test, nucleic acid test for key groups, or the volunteer work for yellow code or red code zones, they responded enthusiastically and provided support.

Especially during the epidemic at the end of last year, KWNC nursing students actively participated in supporting the operation of the Community Treatment Centre (Macau Dome) and demonstrated the College\'s educational philosophy of ‘From Personhood to Benevolence’ to the society with practical actions.

The opening of the new Islands District Medical Complex Campus is a crucial milestone in the development of KWNC. Ms Ao Ieong U also expressed her best wishes to the College for starting its second century, hoping that KWNC can better utilise current ideal conditions, upgraded resources and facilities, optimise the functions of the new campus, and train more nursing professionals for Macao.

Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) held the ‘Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau Wynn Care Life Journey Experience Pavilion’ Opening Ceremony on 23rd March at 2:30 p.m. in the KWNC Islands District Medical Complex Campus. To coordinate with the development of Macao’s Comprehensive Health industry, this Pavilion will become a health education base for students and the general public.

Chair of Wynn Care Foundation and member of the KWNC Advisory Committee Chen Chin Ling pointed out that last year, the Foundation collaborated with KWNC and created the first nursing and Comprehensive Health professional demonstration ‘Life Journey Experience Pavilion’ in Macao. Not only are there transformation and display of the teaching and research achievements of the College, yet also an experiential learning venue for life care education for children, teenagers, adults and seniors. In addition to providing professional life education for students of all ages in the College, it will also be open to young students and the general public to promote a healthy lifestyle.

President of Board of Directors of Kiang Wu Charitable Association, Chair of KWNC College Council Lau Veng Seng expressed heartfelt gratitude to Wynn Care Foundation for its tremendous support in title sponsorship of the hardware construction of the Pavilion. This further promotes the sustainable development of education, charity and community activities. In order to coordinate with the development of the Comprehensive Health industry in Macao, not only does the Pavilion serve as a learning platform for nursing students, yet also a health education base for students and the general public. Moreover, there is the conception of providing training programmes for Wynn team members to enhance their physical and mental health.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau. With continuous development that stays abreast of the times, the College utilises advantages of the nation and the region. It also seizes opportunities of the Greater Bay Area and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. Furthermore, pursuant to the SAR Government\'s policies and to implement the Ten-Year Plan of the College, the level of courses is continuously strengthened. The types of courses cover disciplines such as nursing and gerontology. The College running and curriculum quality have also been recognised by national and international prestigious academic quality assurance agencies. Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, the University’s Second Affiliated Hospital and Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) launched ‘Guangdong-Macao Joint Training of Nursing Backbone Members’ project in a launching ceremony on 6th February 2023 at the Hospital.

The opening ceremony for the first course of this project ‘Older Adult Care Advanced Course’ was also held on the same day and 150 representatives from the abovementioned three parties participated.

KWNC President Van Iat Kio delivered a speech to thank Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and its Second Affiliated Hospital for their trust on entrusting the College to hold an ‘Older Adult Care Advanced Course’. She has planned and participated in the teaching of the course, and the teaching team has a background in various professional fields such as medicine, nursing, gerontology and public health.

For the first phase, trainees are 30 nursing backbone members from different departments in the Hospital. The teaching adopts an online and on-site combination mode to satisfy the needs of trainees. President Van said that the College is committed to cultivating nursing talents and has a century of experience in nursing education.

It is hoped that this cooperation provides a platform for in-depth exchanges between professionals from the two places, and jointly promotes the development of older adults medical care in Guangdong and Macao.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programme (BSN) Year 3 Students Hung Yat, Iong Weng Ian, and Lai Si Weng went to Peking Union Medical College for a term of exchange study on 17th February.

Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) held a send-off party for this group of students, and specially organised for the teachers who have studied in Peking Union Medical College before to participate. The gathering of two generations of nurses is especially meaningful.

Vice-President Assistant Professor Ng Wai I, as the first-generation Peking Union Medical College alumna of the College said that the student exchange programme is of great significance to the College, reflecting the equivalence of the courses between the two Colleges, and sending a message to students that they should clarify problems in a timely manner to promote learning effectiveness.

Deputy Executive Officer of Education Department Assistant Professor Au Mio Leng, who is also a first-generation Peking Union Medical College alumna, reminded the students that although they have top grades in the College, the students of Peking Union Medical College are also outstanding students from all over the country, therefore they should not focus on the comparison of achievements, yet to appreciate and learn from each other\'s strengths.

In addition, in late January 2023, the College also welcomed four Year 3 students majoring in nursing from Peking Union Medical College. They have been participating in the teaching activities of the second term and will soon have clinical placement.

Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) personnel and students paid tributes to renowned composer Koo Ka-fai who passed away in Canada on 3rd January 2023 at the age of 92, according to Hong Kong media reports.

He is also the composer of KWNC College Anthem. KWNC expressed its heartfelt condolences to this ‘Godfather of Hong Kong Music Industry’.

Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) and Shenzhen University signed a collaboration agreement in an agreement signing ceremony held on 9th December 2022 online.

The purposes of the agreement are to promote academic exchange between the two institutes, learn from each other’s experience in training high-level nursing talents, and discuss further cooperation in teaching and scientific research, hoping to jointly create a special project for training nursing and health talents.

Shenzhen University Medical School Deputy Director Xu Xingzhi and KWNC President Van Iat Kio signed the agreement on behalf of both institutes. Representatives from both parties also discussed collaboration implementation, and shared education experience.

Deputy Director Xu Xingzhi mentioned that KWNC has a history of 100 years, and the quality of nursing education is highly recognised. Shenzhen University is also a top University in the Mainland. In recent years, the Medical School has been more active in developing the mode of internationalised talent training. The cooperation between the two universities will help promote academic and scientific research development of both institutes. At the same time, it is hoped that through the establishment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance, the two institutes will have long-term cooperation and more exchange opportunities for internationalisation.

President Van Iat Kio expressed that KWNC actively coordinates with the development plan of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the higher education development policy of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government. The College also utilises advantages of close cooperation with mainland universities and medical organisations. Moreover, it fully expands cooperative education, student and academic exchanges, and promotes the enhancement of quality and quantity of nursing talent training in the two places.

This special and joint project is to cultivate high-quality nursing professionals with international vision, who have the ability of international nursing practice, and innovative spirit. The first collaboration project will be implemented in January next year, and six Shenzhen University students will study at KWNC for a term as exchange students, and KWNC will prepare to lead a group to visit Shenzhen University.

Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) convened 2022/2023 Academic Year 1st College Council Meeting, College Council & Advisory Committee Joint Meeting on the 17th November 2022. The meetings were hosted by the Chair of the College Council Lau Veng Seng online and on site simultaneously. 


The College Council Meeting approved a new-term of College Council and Standing Committee of the College Council members list. 


During the Joint Meeting, KWNC President Van Iat Kio reported the implementation of the Ten-Year Plan and the latest developments of the College.


The College Council Members and the advisers who attended the meetings provided numerous valuable comments on teaching, research, social services, etc. Also, they offered opinions specially for the usage of the new campus and future development. They encouraged the College’s colleagues to seize opportunities created by moving to the new campus, intensify student recruitment efforts, enhance the characteristics of the programmes, and increase the attractiveness and international recognition of the courses. Furthermore, inspired the College’s staff to satisfy the needs of the society, establish more training courses, cultivate diversified talents for Macao, and serve the society.
