Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) hosted the 2023/2024 Opening Ceremony at the Islands District Medical Complex Campus on 25th August 2023 and nearly 700 teachers and students participated.

In the New academic year, there are approximately 180 new students taking Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programme (BSN), 60 new students taking Master of Nursing Programme (MN), and among them 40 students taking the Joint Cultivation for Nursing Master’s Programme Postgraduates: A Collaborative Project between Hunan Normal University and KWNC.

President Van Iat Kio expressed in her speech that shortly after the three-year pandemic, the College immediately organised over 10 groups of student and teacher exchange groups during the summer holidays. They visited various places including Beijing, Hainan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Lisbon, San Francisco, etc. These exchanges broadened the horizon for students and teachers.

She also indicated that the College has successfully completed Institutional Accreditation, doctoral Programme Accreditation, and master’s Programme Review conducted by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) United Kingdom. It also efficiently completed Nursing Education Accreditation conducted by the Motherland\'s Higher Education Evaluation Center of the Ministry of Education.

President Van announced that in the new academic year, the College will launch Master of Applied Gerontology (MAG) and Doctor of Philosophy (Nursing) (PhD). She expressed her pride in the progress of the College and believed that it has now acquired greater capacity to continue nurturing advanced nursing and health science professionals required by the society.

During the ceremony there was conferment of scholarships, Best Nursing Preceptor Award, and Best Clinical Instruction Department Award for Nursing.

Furthermore, Alumna Ku Wai Heng and Macao Musician Chan Wai Fong jointly composed the song ‘Nurture Talents for a Century’ to celebrate KWNC 100th Anniversary. The song was performed and recorded by KWNC teacher, alumni, students and was made into a music video (MV). It premiered during the opening ceremony.

Alumni Association of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau and the Hospital Kiang Wu Nursing and Midwifery School of Macau (Alumni Association) hosted the ‘7th General Assembly, Re-election of the 8th Committee’ on 13th July 2023 at Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) Tung On Campus.

Alumni representatives who came from the Mainland, Hong Kong congregated at the Assembly enthusiastically as this is the first meeting since the pandemic raged across the world.

The Alumni Association successfully elected leadership members for the 8th Committee. The elected members are as follows: 46th cohort alumna Li Mo Fong as the President, 74th cohort alumna Cheong Pak Leng as the Chair of Board of Directors, 41st cohort alumna Sou Leong Iok Wa as the Chair of Supervisory Board, and 46th cohort alumna Lau Gar Bo, 29th alumna Leong Cheok Vai, 65th alumna Gao Lin Hou, 42th cohort alumna Lei Lai Keng as Executive Committee Members.

Alumna Li Mo Fong expressed gratitude to her alma mater and the Alumni Association for their trust. She pledged to uphold the objectives of the Alumni Association and organise more cultural, recreational, and academic activities for alumni, while supporting the development of the nursing profession at KWNC.

Alumna Cheong Pak Leng promised to dedicate her efforts to bridge the gap between young alumni and the alma mater, especially on the occasion of the KWNC 100th Anniversary this year. She aims to utilise the strength of the alumni association to promote various celebratory events and reaches new milestones with the Alumni Association.

30 Macao New Chinese Youth Association Health Ambassadors visited the Life Journey Experience Pavilion of Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) on 29th July 2023 in the afternoon to participate in an interactive workshop, experience Labour Pain Simulator and newborn childcare.

Lecturer Wong Ion Hong hosted a Health Ambassador Workshop, and led a group of high school students who intend to study medical care and health subjects to visit the Life Journey Experience Pavilion and learn about a life cycle.

The Lecturer designed experience activities for different growth stages, including experiences such as sandbag simulating pregnant women, childbirth pain, newborn childcare, balance training, vertical bed, etc. He also used interactive games to guide the Health Ambassadors to explore growth experiences and meaning of life, which let students to have in-depth understanding of the purpose and value of life.

Since the grand opening of the KWNC Life Journey Experience Pavilion in March this year, there are 600 person-times of internal lessons’ utilisation of the Pavilion.

Furthermore, the Pavilion also provides external services, which are well received by high schools, higher education institutes, Macao government, social associations, and alumni. About 20 groups made reservations and visited the Pavilion. KWNC also introduced the facilities in the Pavilion, provided life education and described life meaning to about 500 participates.

A delegation of 12 persons led by Macao Government Tourism Office Acting Director Cheng Wai Tong visited Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) on 4th August 2023 in the afternoon.

The delegation met with KWNC Chair of the College Council Lau Veng Seng and President Van Iat Kio, and visited Life Journey Experience Pavilion, Nursing Laboratories, and teaching facilities.

The delegation arrived at the College at 4:00 p.m. and began visiting the Ho Cheng-Kai Memorial Library, Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Centre, Nursing Laboratory, General Laboratory, and Life Journey Experience Pavilion. Then, they saw the skill test equipment and human body and organ models used by nursing students. They also understood about the theoretical study and standardised skill test processes, observed the operational demonstrations of high-fidelity simulations, experienced sandbag simulating pregnant woman, labour pain simulator, and learnt about the Life Journey Experience Pavilion structure and facilities.

The delegation and KWNC had a discussion and the delegation provided valuable suggestions for the sustainable development of the Pavilion. In addition, they look forward to exploring more possibilities in ‘Industry, Academic and Research’ domains.

Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) hosted the ‘Macao-Guangdong-Suzhou High-Fidelity Simulated Teaching Collaboration Project: Simulated Teaching Teacher Training Course’ at the Islands District Medical Complex Campus from 31st of July to 3rd August 2023.

Macao Education Fund sponsored this project, and 200 nurses and nursing teachers from Macao, Guangdong and Suzhou participated to enhance simulated teaching effects, and promote teaching qualification development in the three places.

For this project, Macao trainees can gain 15 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits.

At the Opening Ceremony of the Course, KWNC President Van Iat Kio delivered a speech and expressed that in recent years, the application of simulated teaching in nursing education has become more extensive. She expected that trainees can further strengthen the application of simulated teaching to achieve better teaching effects after completing the course.

The ‘Simulated Teaching Teacher Training Course’ lasted for four days online and on site. The training content covered theoretical knowledge and practical operations. Trainees learnt to use high-fidelity simulated teaching to stimulate students’ feedback and critical reflection.

Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) held the ‘2022/2023 Academic Year 3rd College Council Meeting’ on the afternoon of 29th June 2023. It was hosted by the Chair of the College Council Lau Veng Seng, and there were 15 Members attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the College reported five development strategies of the Ten-Year Plan, the work summary of the 2022/2023 academic year, the activities of the KWNC 100th Anniversary, and approval of the revision of ‘Internal Regulations’.

The Members of the College Council affirmed the works of the College and provided valuable advice. They encouraged KWNC to make good use of the advanced equipment of the new campus to further expand enrolment, to recruit more students while ensuring teaching quality, and to strengthen teaching team qualifications and the relevant facilities in the geriatric category.

Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau (KWNC) held the Closing Ceremony of Guangdong-Macao Joint Training Nursing Core Members Project ‘Advanced Older Adults Care Studies Course’ on 14th July 2023.

30 nursing staff of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine Second Affiliated Hospital (Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine) completed 75 hours of training on dementia care, palliative care, nursing research, evidence-based practice, with visits and exchanges. Among the staff, five won outstanding trainee certificates.

Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine Rector Wang Wei expressed that this Study Course is a comprehensive connection between Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and KWNC. It is also a major national development strategy and has an essential impact on the sharing of nursing educational resources and personnel training in Guangdong and Macao.

President Van Iat Kio also said that this project is an opportunity and platform for in-depth exchanges between professionals from the two places. Also, she hoped that more collaboration projects will continue to increase in the future to jointly promote the development of health care in Guangdong and Macao.
