Programme Design

  • The Programme is designed for experienced registered nurses working in different specialties in the provision of health care. They have to study on part-time self-directive basis, where the selected teaching and learning strategies will address this characteristic. Teaching strategies include lectures, seminars, small group tutorials, laboratory demonstrations and practices, discussions and case studies.  The subjects also adopt multimedia strategies, e-learning approaches and clinical field observation and practice with endeavours to facilitate the integration of theoretical knowledge into clinical practice.
  • Another key feature of the Programmes is practicum subject which provides a platform for students to apply the advanced practising nurses' roles into respective area of expertise. Students will develop their own learning objectives which are consistent with their specialty subject objectives. The written contract should address individually defined professional goals, supporting resources and actions / activities that facilitate the achievement of established objectives as well as outcomes evaluation. Experienced nursing specialists in the field will be invited to act as preceptors to facilitate students’ up-to-date practice, while critically examining the development of current practices.

 

Programme Objectives

  • Adhering to the educational philosophy of “From Personhood to Benevolence”, to develop the competence of nurses in related specialty nursing in order to ensure a high quality specialized care.
  • To develop nurses’ roles and responsibilities for promoting specialty nursing practice.

  • Perform accountable and advanced specialty nursing skills to maintain client's optimal health and wellness in relation to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialty nursing care within a specific population
  • Critically appraise scientific literature, integrate research findings into advanced practice
  • Provide health information, health promotion and education activities for specific population / specialized illness group effectively
  • Work professionally in specialty practice demonstrating leadership, promoting professional development and clinical supervision skills
  • Demonstrate ability in facilitating a collaborative intra- and inter-professional teams relations
