Theme: Future Direction of Nursing Development: From a View of Re-identifying Professional Uniqueness
Speaker: Honarary Professor Yu-Mei Yu Chao, Chairperson of Taiwan Nursing Accreditation Council
Date: 3 May 2013
Overview:
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Yu drew audience’s attention by reminding them the fact that all people are living with both the ever-changing and unchanged elements. Nowadays many things in the world such as the environment, social development, information technology, medical technology and spectrum of disease all keep on changing. Nevertheless, the process of birth, age, sickness and death, the basic needs in life and the desire to receive love and care have never changed. Nursing personnel are thus encouraged to pursue the spirit and professionalism of lifelong learning so as to be better prepared to deal with this era of changes and preserve the values of nursing. Professor Yu illustrated the nature of nursing from various aspects, and shared her research findings on how nursing personnel and patients perceive “high-quality nursing care” differently. Professor Yu encouraged teachers, students and peers to make continuous efforts in their path of professional development, enhance their competence of clinical nursing and identify their professional uniqueness in this ever-changing society.
