2. Borrowing

A valid identification document (student card, Library card or ID card) must be presented for borrowing an item.

3. Loan period

Refer to the above tables (1.1 & 1.2).

4. Renewals

Loans may be renewed at the circulation counter, through the e-Library system or by phone or email. The number of renewal for different memberships is listed on above tables (1.1 and 1.2).

5. Items not for loan

Periodicals and journals, dictionaries, theses, encyclopaedias, statistical data, newspapers as well as most of the multimedia materials are not available for loan.

6. Multimedia collection

Most of the multimedia collection may only be used in the Library (except for teaching purposes); however, discs that go with books, as well as some of the films and English learning multimedia materials can be borrowed.

7. Loans and returns

7.1 Students need to borrow items in person. Faculty members may email a loan request to the Library staff naming the title of the item.  Once registered, the requested item(s) will be delivered to the requester via the Logistics Division. Delivery service is once a day.

7.2 Apart from returning the loaned titles to the circulation counter, borrowers may also drop them in the book drop located at the lobby of the Main Campus.

7.3. How to use the book drop:

7.3.1 The book drop is located at the lobby on the ground floor of the Main Campus.

7.3.2 The book drop is emptied once a day at 13:30 between Monday and Friday except public holidays; emptying times change during recesses under separate notice.

7.3.3 Items that are returned before the due date will be regarded as returned on the day when they are dropped into the book drop; overdue items, however, will only be regarded as returned on the day when they are taken out of the book drop.

7.3.4 Do not drop delicate objects such as discs and videotapes in the book drop, otherwise the borrower shall be responsible for any damage caused to those items.

7.3.5 Do not place oversized items on top of the book drop, otherwise the borrower shall be responsible for the loss thereof.

8. Overdue loans and fines

8.1 Loans should be returned in time. Where a borrower fails to return a loaned item that is overdue for more than one month, it will be taken as lost and his/her borrowing privileges will be suspended until it has been returned or a replacement cost paid.

8.2 Fines for overdue items are charged at the rate stated in the above tables and capped at MOP60 per item. All fines must be paid within one month, otherwise the borrowing privileges will be suspended until the fines have been paid.

9. Loss and damage

Where the loaned items (such as books, VCDs, DVDs, videotapes, audiotapes and laptops) are found lost or damaged, the borrower should inform the Library staff as soon as possible, and shall be liable for a replacement cost at the original price of the lost or damaged item. Where the lost item is a disc that goes with a book, the replacement cost shall be 50% of the book’s original price. Where the lost or damaged item is not priced, the replacement cost shall be MOP1/page. In addition, an administrative fee of MOP100 shall be charged.

10. Items recommended for acquisition by students

10.1 The items recommended for the purchase must be related to the academic programmes offered by KWNC.

10.2 The Library will only consider buying those titles that it is not carrying.

10.3 Students can obtain a Book Recommendation Form from the library circulation counter or download it from the library website, and return the completed Form to the circulation counter.

10.4 The Form will then be forwarded by the library staff to the relevant faculty member(s) for review.

10.5 The requestor will be notified of the review result.

10.6 The requestor will be informed once the item is available at the Library.

15. Cancellation/Replacement of a Library card

15.1 Before graduation or discontinuing the study, students shall return all the loaned items and pay up the fines, if any; otherwise they will be referred to other units for handling.

15. 2 Where the Library card is not renewed, external borrowers shall return all the loaned items or pay up any fine, whichever case may be, within 10 days of the expiry; otherwise penalty charge shall be deducted from their deposit.

16.2 An eight-people room may only be booked where there will be more than three users; a four-people room may only be booked where there will be more than two users.

16.3 Bookings are accepted only within two weeks in advance. Booking or walk-in registration is made at the circulation counter.

16.4 Each group may use a room only once a day and up to three hours a time.

16.5 If no one else has booked the room or there is no other walk-in registration, the same group may continue to use it for another three-hour slot after having registered themselves over the circulation counter.

16.6 No booking shall be exchangeable or transferrable.

16.7 In case of special needs, the Library has the right to cancel any booking, and the users will be informed so.

16.8 Failure to show up within the first 15 minutes of the booked time will result in the cancellation of the booking. In that case, the reserved time slot may be released for a new booking or walk-in registration.

16.9 The discussion room may not be left unoccupied for more than 15 minutes at any time during the reserved period, otherwise the booking may be cancelled for another walk-in registration.

16.10 Users have to keep down their voice volume in the discussion room or they will be asked to leave the room after repeated warnings.

16.11 No food or drink is allowed in the discussion room except bottled water.
