Clinical Case Disposal Magnetic Patch Teaching Aid (Patent No. ZL202222233246.6)

Healthcare professional education is mainly composed of classroom, laboratory and clinical practice. Given that clinical practice requires high professional independence of healthcare students, the provision of healthcare measures directly to patients/public involves technical and safety issues, and people's awareness of their rights is high, therefore, preclinical training of healthcare students in terms of knowledge, skills, and decision-making has become more and more important. In the past decade, the teaching tools used in healthcare education have been changing rapidly, including high simulation, vSim (virtual learning system), VR (virtual reality system), and even immersive simulation space, etc. However, these high-tech teaching aids are expensive, and some of them need to be installed in the environment to match the needs of the students or cannot be carried out by more than one student at the same time, so the popularity of their benefits is relatively low.

The appearance of this teaching aid is a small (about 35cm X 30cm X 8cm) portable box, open the lid of the box and there is a human figure on the inside of the lid, and there are dozens of magnetic stickers hidden in the box, the magnetic stickers have the patterns of different medical instruments, medical objects and the names of medicines, and the medical tools can be sucked and pasted on the corresponding part of the human figure, e.g., the magnet of the oxygen mask can be put on the nose and mouth part of the human figure. The teaching aids are mainly images with little text, so there is no restriction on the venue, environment and language for healthcare teachers to use them, and the production cost is low and no maintenance cost, which is affordable for all levels of healthcare colleges and universities, making them practical and accessible.

This teaching aid can be used in classrooms, group case discussion sessions during clinical practice, or the prebriefing and debriefing sessions of high-fidelity simulation teaching. Instructors can guide students to put the corresponding medical measures onto the humanoid images according to the condition of the predefined cases, and the students' learning is transformed from passive listening to active "implementation". The use of this teaching aid can assist students to better understand the process of case management and the decision-making of priorities by means of visual stimulation and information input. As students do not only rely on their imagination in the learning process, but also need to "do it by hand" to put up the measures, students become more cautious in the process, and they think step by step while different members of the group also discuss and make decisions step by step. In addition, the use of this teaching aid avoids the disadvantages of vSim and VR where students learn alone and without interaction with others, and the use of the "Clinical Case Management Magnetic Teaching Aid" can also develop the communication, teamwork and independent learning skills of healthcare students.
